Fire protection on the high seas: solutions for ships and yachts

Marine applications have special demands on fire protection. If a fire breaks out at sea, it is a matter of seconds and of the immediate rescue of passengers and staff. This is because a fire on a ship usually spreads quickly. Escape routes are limited. Rapid evacuation of people at sea is often not possible and immediate fire extinguishing by outside help is almost impossible.

The earlier a fire is detected, the faster the first important measures can be initiated on board to rescue people and equipment. With our aspirating smoke detection system, we at WAGNER offer the right solution for such requirements, giving you the time advantage you need to save lives and protect equipment.

RISK ANALYSIS

Fires spread very quickly

In addition to human error, it is often defects or faults in electrical systems or components that cause a fire. The materials used on board provide the ideal breeding ground for a fire to spread quickly. In addition, the metal walls on board quickly conduct the heat caused by the fire. Depending on the type and size of the ship, the goods being transported also pose potential fire risks, for example on container or cruise ships. In ferry transport, the transportation of electric vehicles and the lithium-ion batteries installed in them also poses an increasing risk, as the energy storage devices carry the risk of spontaneous combustion, which can lead to devastating chain reactions.

PROTECTION GOALS

Protecting lives and investments

  • Protection of staff and passengers
  • Protection of vehicles and equipment from fire-related damage caused by smoke, soot and extinguishing water
  • Prevention of consequential damage and damage to image
  • Protection of the environment

BETTER SOLUTIONS IN FIRE PROTECTION

Detecting fires as early as possible

Detecting fires as early as possible is of immense importance in marine applications for two reasons: on the one hand, personal safety and thus evacuation as early as possible in the event of an emergency is the top priority, and on the other hand, you want to minimize fire-related damage to your ships and yachts and thus to your assets.

Our innovative TITANUS® early fire detection system gives you a decisive time advantage. Because even in the early phase of a fire, the so-called pyrolysis phase, our aspirating smoke detectors detect even the smallest amounts of smoke particles without any false alarms. The aspirating smoke detectors are approved for ships and yachts, can be maintained quickly and easily at a central location and can be adapted exactly to the respective area of application thanks to their high modularity. Thanks to a wide range of accessories, TITANUS® aspirating smoke detectors can cope with even the most difficult environmental conditions.
